Michael Lawrence Wild

Oct. 21, 1954 to March 7, 2022

Michael Lawrence Wild, devoted husband, loving son, big brother, father and grandfather, went to be with his Lord March 7, 2022.

He was born in San Diego, California to Charles F. Wild and Iila Mae Wild. He graduated from Kearny High School and attended college at Mesa College in San Diego, moving out at 17 years old. He then worked as a dishwasher, bus boy, cook, chef, then manager at Reuben’s, CoCo’s and Reuben E. Lee, where he was known as the “Omelet King.”

Michael was an active member in the Boy Scouts of America, playing trumpet in the Scout Band, which aired on San Diego television. He continued in Scouts, achieving their highest possible rank of Eagle Scout. He was also heavily involved in the Scout’s Explorer Post program, where he enjoyed hiking, canoeing and rock climbing, with a long list of peak bagging in the Sierra Nevadas. While in the Explorer Post he met a goofy young girl named Linda Hughes, fell in love and they were married Sept. 4, 1977.

Michael changed careers for his family, working in the trucking industry for Viking/FedEx and Walmart, where he accumulated over 1 million safe driving miles. He moved his family to the Kern River Valley in 1990, where he continued to enjoy the outdoors and his other interests. He was also an avid photographer, making many trips to Lone Pine and Bishop (and beyond). He loved the Lord and was very involved with his church, Mountain View Southern Baptist, serving on the finance committee, driving the church van, occasionally playing the trumpet and singing on the praise team. He was also a longtime member of the Kern Valley Community Orchestra and the Jazz Tones, where he played the trumpet, flugelhorn and cornet.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Wild; his sons, Benjamin and Daniel and their wives, Jazzmein and Alicia; his siblings Steve, Larry and Cindy; his grandchildren, Korrine, Gabriel, Jacob, Austin, Caleb, Riley and Elijah; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14, 11 a.m. at Mountain View Southern Baptist Church, 2959 Erskine Creek Rd. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mountain View Southern Baptist Church Operation Christmas Child ministry.
